My name is Doug Moore. I am 30 years old and live in Woodward, Oklahoma. I currently work for Case Wireline Services Inc. as a pipe recovery engineer. I have been married for 7 years to my loving wife, Morgan Moore, and have two beautiful daughters, Kinley and Kylah.
Competitive Shooter Profile
I got into the sport of Precision Rifle in 2013, after my wife built me my first custom rifle the previous year for my birthday. She built it in a 6×47 and we loaded twenty rounds for it, only for it to sit in the safe for a year. Finally, I got to run the gun out to a thousand yards and went to my first match and won, which got me hooked. Butch Fjoser with Butch’s Guns asked me to be on his team the following year, which has been a great experience.
My goal for 2017 was to make the finale in both the Precision Rifle Series and the National Rifle League. I was able to make the National Rifle League Championship but was unable to make the Precision Rifle Series Finale, due to only being able to make the Heat Stroke match. However, I did manage a 13th place finish at the Heat Stroke match that I am very proud of.
My Rifle Build
For the 2017 season I am running two Surgeons, one a 6 Dasher, and the other, a 6 Creedmoor. I got them both topped off by a Schmidt & Bender PM II scope with a T3 reticle mounted in NightForce rings. I have a Jewel trigger that I have used for years that I feel really confident in. I currently run Bartlein Barrels with SilencerTech suppressors. I really like my current set up and trust every piece on each of my guns.
The biggest thing that I need to work on is my management of time. Between work, family, and matches I constantly find myself struggling to prioritize. My work schedule in the oilfield interferes with my family time and my practice schedule, so finding time to fit everything in is difficult. I need to work on making sure each moment counts and not waste any time so that I can have a wonderful family and be successful in my shooting career. I have everything that I need in order to be successful as far as my set up and practice area, I just need to discover how to manage my time in order to use it to my advantage.
“I never lose; either I win or I learn.”
Can’t Live Without
I cannot live without my friend’s rail system, Ingenuity Gunworks. Since introducing his product into my setup, I have been able to gain time on my barricade shooting. It has made an overall difference in my success as a shooter. It is a game changer in a one-bag match.
Best Memories from the Sport
My overall favorite experiences as well as my most rewarding one was placing 6th at Butch’s NRL Match in Oklahoma, and also placing 13th at the Heat Stroke. I am super proud of myself for accomplishing my goals and continuing to increase in placings throughout this year’s season. I hope to finish out strong and come back next year even better.
