Gear – Day 1 – 1 Bag, 1 Bipod Day 2 – Bag, Bipod, Tripod, Laser Range Finder
If a shooter does not have a laser range finder or tripod, one will be provided at the stage.
We set out to design an entire experience, rather than just a match. This match will consist of two styles of shooting. Day one will be a 10 stage square by style event held at our Cody Shooting Complex which features a face paced, moving targets, multiple target engagement and a positional heavy shooting environment. Course of fire will be designed around being able to shoot it with 1 bag and 1 bipod. Tripods can be used, but must be deployed on the clock.
Day two will be conducted at a neighboring field venue which we go to the practical and traditional roots of long range hunting. The day 2 course of fire will be designed around realistic hunting scenarios that hunters may or have found themselves in the field. Be expected to obtain ranges to your target on the clock, utilize your tripod in terrain that does not allow you to shoot prone, and exercise your target acquisition skills.
If you attended my match last year I have 2 big rules.
Deploy your bipods and tripods on the clock. That means if you want to use your tripod, your tripod will be fully collapsed, legs locked as if you pulled it from your pack in the storage position. Any violation of this rule is an automatic DQ. Your bipods will be folded up and legs will collapsed all the way.
1-Arms distance from any gear you bring with you to the stage. You’re not allowed to have a yard-sale up on the line and bring a tripod just to use it for one shooting position and then ditch it. While you are sighted in with your sight picture in your firing position, while maintaining positive control of the rifle, you must be able to touch or grab your piece of equipment within 1 arms reach. Shooters will not accumulate points if their gear is outside of 1 arms distance. RO’s will call MISS until the shooter corrects themselves.
BE PREPARED TO
Use your range finders on the clock for one stage to obtain your distance to the target. If you do not have a range finger, we will provide you with a Gunwerks BR2500. The purpose of this is to see if you know how to utilize your equipment in a fast-paced environment.
Pull from hard data. I have a stage designed to where you will pull your firing solution from a paper source only (data book, note card, etc.) where there is no electronics allowed. You’ll obtain the distance to the target from a range card that is drawn.
Shoot a lot from a tripod as FRONT SUPPORT. If you do not have a tripod, we will provide one.

Late April in Cody is hit or miss. One year it’s been 70 degrees, clear skies and dry and one year it’s been sub 40 degrees and snowing or raining. Make sure you pack accordingly! For our 2019 match, we had to call off day 2 because of the weather and most shooters were not prepared for what mother nature had in store for us!
